In the first studio we made mini collages that expressed our identity. The collage was made up of pictures and words from magazines and construction paper. This would be a great studio project to do in an elementary school classroom. It would not only give students a way to show their identity to their peers but it would also give those student who thrive more through the art a chance to excel as well.
In the second studio was my person favorite out of all of the studios we have done so far. We got to pick a Disney character that we felt represented us best and then also pick a Disney antagonist character. We researched both characters personality traits and compared them to our own before creating a water pain picture of them. I feel like it would be a excellent project to do with students. It gives the students an opportunity to see that even the antagonist characters are relatable and have positive attributes. This represents back to the big idea of “Identity” because students can identify themselves with characters that they are already emotional connected with. Which connect to what Pink (2005) stated “what begins to matter more is the ability to place these fact in content and deliver them with emotional impact.”
The last studio we did for this studio was to create a piece similar to what William Wegman does with his dogs. We were to tell a fable story through our art by combining animals and human. We could either have animals with human heads or vice versa. This would be an effective project for students to do because in many cases stories are how we remember information. According to Pink “Story is high concept because it sharpens our understanding of one thing by showing it in the context of something else.” (103) combining art with story children will be able to remember the story and the significance of the project better.
Through these pieces children can express who they "are". A students characteristic can be read through art while practicing effective learning strategies. These studios can also be used in different subjects
